Trump’s Not long after Biden’s declaration, the former Republican president told the network. Subsequently, Trump attacked Biden on social media, saying he wasn’t worthy of becoming president.
Minutes after Joe Biden pulled out of the US Presidential race, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Sunday that he thinks Vice President Kamala Harris will be easier to defeat in November’s election than the 81-year-old leader. CNN said the Republican former president made the comments to the network shortly after Biden announced his decision. Trump also later attacked Biden on social media, saying that Biden was unfit to continue serving as president.
Sunday marked the conclusion of Biden’s reelection campaign as other Democrats lost confidence in his mental toughness and capacity to defeat Trump. In order to succeed him as the party’s nominee, Biden supported Harris. After a poor and shaky showing in a televised debate against Trump towards the end of last month, Biden had begun to question his chances of winning reelection.
Biden was not fit to run for President: Trump
The President declared on Sunday on his Truth Social platform that Biden “was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve.” Leading Republicans, such as Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson, stated that Biden was unfit to be president and should not be allowed to complete his tenure as the Democratic nominee. Johnson demanded that Biden step down in writing.
“We will suffer greatly because of his (Biden’s) presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform. After the debate, certain polls that had mainly linked Trump and Biden for the presidency in the November elections showed Trump just ahead of the president.
Alternative Democratic candidateÂ
According to a person with firsthand knowledge of the situation, the Trump campaign had already started deliberating how to reallocate campaign resources in case Biden withdrew. This was said on Sunday. The source stated that the president’s withdrawal would necessitate reconsidering the allocation of resources in general and the use of advertising money in particular since any other Democratic contender would probably have distinct advantages and disadvantages than Biden.
Publicly, Trump campaign advisers and allies have been telling reporters they are not worried about facing Harris because they can simply tie her to Biden’s record in office, particularly on immigration and inflation. They say they will try to portray Harris, and any of the other candidates being suggested as alternatives for the Democrats, as being to the left of Biden on various policies. Trump’s oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., said on social media after Biden dropped out that Harris “owns the entire leftwing policy record of Joe Biden.”
Vance: ‘How can he justify remaining President?’
JD Vance, Trump’s recently appointed vice presidential candidate, stated on X earlier today, ahead of Biden’s letter, what many Republicans have been shouting: “If Joe Biden ends his reelection campaign, how can he justify remaining President?” Biden’s withdrawal from the race, according to Vance, “would be a clear admission that President Trump was right all along about Biden not being mentally fit enough to serve as Commander-in-Chief.” Vance was formally nominated as Trump’s running mate during last week’s RNC.
