The Wayanad landslides have caused damage to about 350 structures.
Since Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Thursday that those who are still alive have been saved during the previous three days, it is anticipated that the death toll from the Wayanad landslide tragedy would grow.
About 200 individuals are missing and 177 people have officially perished, including 70 women and 25 children. But according to PTI, which cited unverified information, there were really 276 dead. Additionally, 92 body parts have been recovered by fishing in the Chaliyar River.
The landslides have caused damage to about 350 structures.
Difficulties encountered during the rescue operation included unstable ground and an inadequate supply of heavy machinery.
“It is presumed that in the villages of Mundakkai, Chooralmala, and Attamala, nobody is left to be saved. Search and rescue personnel are investigating whether any individuals became stuck. The Indian Express reported that he stated, “The only thing left to do is remove bodies from the area.”
1600 rescue personnel, including members of the NDRF, Army, and Navy, were forced to participate in the rescue efforts.
Politicians who visited the displaced people to show support for them included Vijayan, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Meanwhile, the Bailey Bridge between Chooralmala and Mundakkai was finished by the Army on Thursday night. It is now possible to convey the necessary equipment to disaster-affected areas.
Following his visit to Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi conveyed his distress.
It’s a sad disaster for Kerala, the country, and Wayanad. We arrived here to assess the circumstances. The sheer number of people who have lost loved ones and homes is heartbreaking. Gandhi told reporters, “We will try to help and make sure that the survivors get what is due.”
Many of them are in favor of moving. In this case, a lot of work has to be done. I want to express my gratitude to everyone, especially the staff, physicians, nurses, and volunteers,” he continued.
To date, the authorities have performed 256 autopsies.
We have finished 256 autopsies, including those involving body parts, as of this morning at 7 a.m. Thus, it has body pieces in addition to 256 whole bodies. Health Minister Veena George stated, “We have given the district administration 154 bodies.”
