Miley Cyrus made history on Sunday by becoming the youngest Disney Legend ever as one of the 14 honorees at the D23 fan event. The 31-year-old singer honored Hannah Montana, the lead character from the popular Disney Channel series, in her heartfelt address. When the Flowers hitmaker was barely 13 years old in 2006, she landed the legendary role.

During the conference at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, Cyrus joined the stage following Lainey Wilson’s rendition of her hit song, “The Best of Both Worlds.” The 12,000-strong crowd gave the Wrecking Ball singer a standing ovation, and she declared, “I’m definitely going to cry.”
One lengthy speech if I’m the badass I’m supposed to be, and one short speech if I become terrified, she joked about having prepared for the evening. Reminiscent of her Disney Channel days, Cyrus acknowledged that she will always be “proud” of her character Hannah Montana.
“My first free performance was being held at the Glendale mall, where they were giving away tickets. “In my heart, I was Hannah Montana, and I was so proud to be,” the singer said. “The first song I opened with was titled This Is the Life, which of course, no one knew because, in reality, I was a little girl in a blonde wig at the mall with a big dream.”
As she dedicated the prize to her legendary blonde-haired persona, the singer of Angels Like You acknowledged that everything had changed for her since then. “Since that day, everything has changed a little bit, but nothing has changed at all,” she clarified.
“Hannah Montana made Miley in so many ways that I’m still thrilled to have been one of them here. This award is dedicated to everyone who has helped me realize my ambition as well as to Hannah and all of her incredible, devoted followers. This is the life, to borrow from the tale herself, Cyrus continued.
