When Jaya Bachchan, an actor turned Samajwadi Party MP, was introduced as “Jaya Amitabh Bachchan,” Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar responded enthusiastically.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar responded warmly to Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan’s self-introduction as “Jaya Amitabh Bachchan” on Friday, in a hilarious turn of events. Bachchan, who had earlier said she didn’t want to be called by her husband’s name, used it in jest during a session that led to the altercation.
Dhankhar laughed out loud at this unexpected turn of events, and a number of other MPs, including Jairam Ramesh of the Congress and Raghav Chadha of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), expressed similar sentiments. Bachchan and Dhankhar had a brief yet amusing conversation as a result of the lighthearted moment.
“Did you get a lunch break today?” joked Bachchan. Not at all? You keep taking Jairam Ji’s name because of this. You can’t even begin to process your meal without naming him.”
With graciousness, Dhankhar said, “I’ll tell you on a lighthearted note. “I had lunch with Jairam ji today instead of taking a break,” he said, adding to the house’s amusement. “I also want to tell you that this might be the first time that I am a fan of both Amitabh ji and of you,” he said.
