Maharashtra Police had said that the tugboat went adrift after its engine stopped functioning near the Kolaba fort off the Alibag coast on Thursday.
A police official announced on Friday that all 14 crew members of a tugboat that had strayed in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Alibag in Maharashtra’s Raigad district had been rescued.
He added that the Coast Guard assisted in the crew’s rescue effort from the JSW Group-operated small carrier.
According to Somnath Gharge, the superintendent of police in Raigad, all 14 crew members of the tugboat were successfully evacuated during the operation, which began at around nine in the morning and involved a Coast Guard helicopter.
He added that all 14 members of the crew were safely dropped off at Alibag beachÂ
by the Coast Guard helicopter that had picked them up from the tugboat.
The JSW Group stated in a statement on Thursday that “a small carrier vesselÂ
operated by JSW was caught in the bad weather today between Jaigarh and SalavÂ
as it drifted due to heavy winds and low visibility.”
Police had reported that the tugboat fell adrift when its engine stopped functioning near the Kolaba fort off the Alibag coast on Thursday.
Strong gusts, high tide, and a lot of rain were making it impossible for Raigad police, the Coast Guard, and revenue officials to begin a rescue effort for the trapped boat, according to Gharge.
