Recently, Indian singer Kumar Sanu was tricked by an AI-generated video on social media, which appeared to show him “singing” for Imran Khan about freedom.
Indian singer Kumar Sanu has refuted untrue rumors that he sang at a performance in support of Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, and his release. The musician called out a social media video that appeared to be artificial intelligence (AI) produced and demanded that the Indian government take swift action against the people who uploaded it.
‘Some people are trying to defame me’
According to a recently leaked video on Facebook and X (previously Twitter), Kumar sang at a performance and urged the release of Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan.
Though the voice appears to have been modulated to sing, “Imran Khan ko azaad karaenge, wazir azam banayenge,” the footage appears to have been filmed at one of Kumar’s concerts. Pakistan hum banayenge, naya zulm ke khilaaf awaaz uthayenge. (Imran Khan will be set free and become prime minister. We are going to speak up against injustice and create a new Pakistan.)
However, the artist addressed the matter on Instagram on Sunday by posting a screenshot of the news agency PTI dispelling these rumors. “I want to clarify that I have never sung any song for the former Prime Minister of Pakistan,” he stated in his letter. The audio that is going around on Facebook was produced by AI; it is not my voice. I would want to inform my fans that this story is false and fraudulent because certain individuals are attempting to discredit me!
“This is a serious misuse of technology, and I urge the Government of India to take immediate action to prevent the abuse of AI and deepfake technology,” he said, calling out those who were misusing technology and encouraging them to cease disseminating false information. Let’s halt the false information from spreading. (emoji with folded hands) #fakenew
