Kangana Ranaut used Instagram Stories to encourage and provide strength to wrestler Vinesh Phogat.
Kangana Ranaut, an actor turned politician, retracted a day after subtly mocking wrestler Vinesh Phogat for opposing Narendra Modi and praising her for her historic performance in the Paris 2024 Olympics. She spoke up to defend Vinesh when she was declared ineligible.
Because Vinesh was overweight on the morning of her fight in the women’s 50kg division, she was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 finals.
Message of support
Kangana used Instagram Stories to offer Vinesh strength and to express her support.
She reshared a picture that said the country is behind the wrestler. “Mat ro Vinesh, aapke saath khada hai pura desh (Don’t cry, the whole country is standing beside you)” is the message that appears with the photograph.
Additionally, she called PT Usha, the head of the Indian Olympic Association, “sherni” (lioness) when she published an Instagram Stories photo of them with Vinesh.
In response to Vinesh’s accomplishment on Tuesday, Kangana posted on Instagram, saying, “Here’s hoping for India’s first gold medal… At one point, Vinesh Phogat participated in demonstrations holding signs that read, “Modi teri Kabr khudegi.” Nevertheless, she was granted the chance to represent the country and was provided with the greatest facilities, coaches, and training. This is the hallmark of a great leader and the beauty of democracy.
Many people didn’t think favorably of it. Some social media users thought her comments were improper and undervalued Vinesh’s individual efforts and accomplishments.
About disqualification
Tragically, Vinesh—who on Tuesday night had made history as the first Indian female wrestler to compete for the gold medal—was disqualified after it was discovered that she had weighed between 100 and 150 grams more than was allowed. She allegedly did not sleep since she was two kilos over her normal weight at night and tried every possible activity to meet the eligibility requirements, including cycling, skipping, and jogging. Shortly after being disqualified, she passed out from dehydration and is currently being treated at a Parisian hospital.
On social media, a number of Bollywood celebrities, including Sonakshi Sinha, Varun Grover, Taapsee Pannu, Farhan Akhtar, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, responded to the tragic announcement of the wrestler’s disqualification.
