The deceased was an M-Tech student at IIT Guwahati and a citizen of Uttar Pradesh.
The other students reportedly told the institute administration about the occurrence, and they then phoned the police, who came to retrieve the body.

In a statement issued on Friday night, the IIT administrators said, “IIT Guwahati reports the untimely death of a female student on campus on August 9, 2024 with great grief. The police authorities are looking into the incident.
It stated, “The student’s immediate family has been notified, and the Institute is offering them complete support during this trying time.”
