After a jury finds Hunter Biden guilty, he will be sentenced in November on federal firearms crimes.
According to a court document on Friday, Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden, will be sentenced on November 13 following a jury’s conviction on federal firearms charges.
The accusations arose from his October 201812 purchase and possession of a handgun during his crack cocaine addiction.
On June 11, a Wilmington, Delaware jury found Hunter Biden guilty on three charges of lying about using illicit drugs at the time he bought a firearm in 2018. This became Biden the first child of a sitting president to be convicted of a felony.
Testimonies from Hunter Biden’s ex-wife, ex-girlfriend, Hallie Biden (the widow of his late brother Beau Biden), and his daughter Naomi Biden were heard throughout the six-day trial. After less than three hours of deliberation, the jury returned a guilty judgment.
Eight days after Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican contender Donald Trump square off in the presidential election on November 5, U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika will sentence the two candidates.
The recommended sentence range for the firearms crimes is 15 to 21 months, but according to legal professionals, defendants in situations like this typically receive shorter terms and have a lower chance of going to jail if they follow the conditions of their pretrial release.
Joe Biden said he had to accept the ‘outcome’ of his son’s case
Following the decision, Joe Biden released a statement expressing his acceptance of the case’s conclusion. He remarked, “I am the President, as I said last week, but I am also a Dad.”
“Jill and I adore our kid and are really proud of the adult he has become. The sense of pride that comes from watching a loved one overcome addiction and demonstrate incredible strength and resilience in recovery is shared by a large number of families.
“I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal,” Biden continued, echoing what he had stated last week.
Prosecutors provided an intimate look at Hunter Biden’s years of alcohol and crack cocaine consumption throughout the trial, claiming that this prevented him from being able to properly purchase a firearm.
Because Biden did not identify as a drug user when he filled out the form, his attorneys attempted to demonstrate that he was not taking drugs at the time he purchased the pistol and had no intention of lying.
In addition, Hunter Biden is accused of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes between 2016 and 2019 while spending millions on expensive products including escorts, narcotics, exotic automobiles, and other luxury stuff. He is also accused of three felonies and six misdemeanors related to tax offenses in California. To those accusations, he has entered a not guilty plea. A Los Angeles trial is set for September 5.
