Israel claimed to have started airstrikes in southern Lebanon to stop the group’s onslaught.
Hezbollah, an organization supported by Iran, claimed on Sunday that it had fired 320 Katyusha rockets at 11 Israeli military locations, raising the possibility of new conflict in the already unstable Middle East. Israel claimed to have started airstrikes in southern Lebanon to stop the group’s onslaught.
The extremist organization from Lebanon said that it had attacked Israel with drones in retribution for the murder of one of its leaders in Beirut.
The organization claimed that in addition to “targeting several enemy sites, barracks, and Iron Dome platforms,” the operation was also aimed against “a qualitative Israeli military target that will be announced later.”
The assassination of the group’s senior commander, Fouad Shukur, prompted the strikes.
Hezbollah was allegedly planning an attack when the Israeli military declared earlier on Sunday that it would launch preventative attacks on its locations in Lebanon.
According to the IDF, Hezbollah intended to unleash a powerful salvo of rockets and missiles into Israel. The organization supported by Iran had been threatening to take revenge for Israel’s late-month killing of a senior commander.
The Israeli military is hitting terror sites in Lebanon as a self-defense measure to neutralize these threats, as Hezbollah was preparing to begin its assaults on Israeli people from these locations. Without giving any information, he said, “We can see that Hezbollah is getting ready to launch a massive attack on Israel while endangering the Lebanese civilians.” Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the military spokesperson for Israel, stated early on Sunday that “we warn the civilians located in the areas where Hezbollah is operating to move out of harm’s way immediately for their own safety.”
Several news outlets claim that air raid sirens were activated in northern Israel. As a precaution, aircraft at the nation’s Ben-Gurion International Airport were also rerouted.
Hezbollah declared their strike shortly afterward.
Regarding the issue, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will call a cabinet meeting.
A fresh round of negotiations to put an end to the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza preceded the strike.
Hezbollah has said that in the event of a cease-fire, it will end hostilities.
