Yulo received several awards for his historic victory, the most notable of which is a $414,000 three-bedroom apartment. Yulo’s consecutive victories increased the number of medals the Philippines has won from one to three over its 100-year history of competition. He received a 10 million Philippine peso award from the government. His winnings, meanwhile, did not stop there. After his second victory, he was upgraded to a three-bedroom apartment from the original two-bedroom one that he was supposed to receive.
According to Larry Brown Sports, Yulo won a house and a sizable salary in addition to a lifetime supply of free ramen, unrestricted access to a nearby buffet, free food and drinks at a chain of restaurants, free engineering design for life, free furniture valued at 100,000 pesos, and unrestricted colonoscopies and gastroenterology consultations.
With his victory, Yulo became the first gymnast and male athlete from the Philippines to win an Olympic gold medal. He is the second Filipino to earn an Olympic gold medal, following Hidilyn Diaz, who triumphed in the 2020 Tokyo Games women’s 55 kg weightlifting competition.
