Brad Pitt revealed that Alcoholics Anonymous chastised him for disclosing his membership in the organization in public.
According to recent disclosures from Brad Pitt, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) chastised him for disclosing his membership in the support group in public.
The 60-year-old Hollywood legend has been open about his journey to recovery, particularly in the wake of his well-reported split from Angelina Jolie. Following their breakup, rumors circulated claiming that Pitt’s alcoholism was a factor in their acrimonious disputes.
Pitt and George Clooney, his co-star in Ocean’s Eleven, had an open conversation about their personal lives during a GQ interview. Pitt touched during the discussion, saying, “You know they came down on me for that? AA took action.
“They said, ‘It’s not anonymous.'” Startled by this, Clooney said, “Really? You deserve hell for that? Pitt continued, saying, “I’m not outing anyone.” Everyone is aware of your existence. What’s the problem?
Pitt’s journey toward sobriety began after the breakdown with Jolie
“I had a cool men’s group here that was private and selective, so it was safe,” the Bullet Train star said to GQ in 2022.
The actor was greatly troubled by the breach of trust he witnessed when he saw how certain people were videotaped while discussing extremely personal experiences in different contexts. That seems really horrible to him.
Pitt said, “I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges,” in an interview with the New York Times in 2019. After splitting with Jolie, he went to AA meetings for a year and a half in order to maintain his sobriety.
He said, “I’ve never heard anyone be this open and honest while all these men were sitting around.”
“It was this safe place with minimal judgment, so you felt less judgment about yourself.” Being able to open up to a bunch of strangers about the more challenging parts of himself was also “freeing” for Pitt.
