Shortly before demonstrators stormed the compound, Hasina resigned in the wake of historic public rallies demanding the overthrow of her administration and departed her official house in a military helicopter.
According to persons aware of the situation, a Bangladesh Air Force plane carrying former prime leader Sheikh Hasina touched down at Hindon Airfield close to Ghaziabad on Monday. The plane is anticipated to depart for London soon.
Shortly before protestors stormed the building, Hasina, 76, resigned in the wake of historic public demonstrations demanding the overthrow of her administration. She departed Ganabhavan, the prime minister’s official house, in a military helicopter.
According to the witnesses mentioned above, who asked to remain anonymous, the chopper took Hasina and her small group—which included her sister Sheikh Rehana—to a military airstrip where they boarded a Bangladesh Air Force C-130 transport plane.
The long-serving premier of Bangladesh, Hasina, is anticipated to board a commercial aircraft to London; however, it was not immediately apparent how long she would stay in the Indian capital, according to the persons. Based in New Delhi, her daughter Saima Wazed is the World Health Organization’s regional director for South Asia.
Regarding the Bangladesh Air Force flight and Hasina’s choice to go to India after escaping Dhaka, neither the Indian Air Force nor the External Affairs Ministry released an official statement.
The demonstrations that have shaken Bangladesh since last month have not received any response from the Indian government, which has described them as an “internal matter” of the nation. India’s “Neighbourhood First” strategy has mostly benefited Bangladesh, since billions of dollars have been allocated to infrastructure projects and the establishment of physical connections, such as bus and train services.
Hasina also developed a strong relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi; in fact, the two leaders frequently refer to the current stage of their bilateral ties as a “golden chapter,” or “Shonali Odhyay.”
